Active listening is the most important requisite of good communication. It is an important skill required by the medical professional to develop. It can be characterized by silence during listening and active feedback. The techniques of active listening include restatement, reflection, and clarification. Open-ended questions help the medical assistant to know whether the patient is understanding or listening to their words.
