24.You are scheduled to administer an antihypertensive medication to a client, what is the most important thing you should do as the nurse before administering the agent? (use your critical thinking skills) – What would you do before you administer insulin?
Ans) 24)Before administering medication, it is critical to have five areas of information correct: patient identification, medication, dosage, time, and route.
- Checking of vital signs is must before administrating antihypertensive drugs so that blood pressure won't get low if it's already low & you administer the medications patient's BP will fall more down. As antihypertensive drugs can be withhold for sometime if blood pressure is in normal limits. Administrating randomly antihypertensive drugs may cause hypotension & further complications.
- Same in the case of insulin administration, checking of HGT ( Human Glucose test) will help us to keep track how the levels of blood glucose can be kept in normal range.
If insulin is administered without checking then it may lead to hypoglycemia & sudden drop in sugar may cause further complications.
