Intravenous pyelogram or IVP is one type of x-ray examination where contrast material is used to evaluate kidney ,ureter, bladder.
Here iodinated contrast materials injected into veins, then this contrast travels through the blood stream and finally reaches to kidney then bladder ,ureter.
These areas becomes bright white in x-ray images. By this anatomy and functions of kidney ,bladder and ureter can be assessed.
One must inform doctor if she is pregnant or there is any probability of being pregnant. Patient should also discuss about recent illness,medical conditions, medication taking in present, history of allergy especially to iodine materials.
Examples:-
1. Kidney stone
2. Enlarged Prostate
These two are very common.
Others are - tumors in kidney, ureter bladder, congenital anomalies in kidney ureter bladder etc.
