Acute coronary syndrome :

1. Heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood that contain oxygen and nutrient which the body needs, the main pumping chamber of heart is left ventricle when left ventricle contract it send oxygen rich blood to body through large artery called aorta connected through aorta the small artery called coronary artery. Blood flow from aorta to coronary artery to supply heart muscle with oxygen and nutrients, in case of acute coronary syndrome blood flow through coronary artery is severely reduced and blocked.

2. Possible cause of reduced blood flow is atherosclerosis, it is the fatty substance called plaque which narrow the Coronary artery. If the plaque rupture it form blood clot that block the artery.

3. Other cause of reduced blood supply are Coronary artery spasm or dissection. Coronary artery spasm trigger such as drugs, smoking, cold weather, or emotion that cause temporary or sudden tightening of Coronary artery. During Coronary artery dissection inside wall of coronary artery get separate which can block blood flow.

4. Reduced blood supply to heart will cause reduce oxygen and nutrient supply which leads to dead of heart muscle this is called myocardial infarction.

5. Blocked coronary artery also cause to feel sudden pain, discomfort tightness or burning pain in chest called angina. This pain extend to upper abdomen, shoulder, arm, neck and lower jaw.

6. In case of actue coronary syndrome oxygen therapy is prescribed to increase oxygen content in blood. Aspirin to prevent blood clot and thrombolytic drug may be used to prevent further blood clot. Nitroglycerin, morphine to relax artery to relief pain of angina. Beta blockers slow down heart and reduce it need for oxygen.

7. Surgical procedure - Coronary angioplasty is a balloon tipped Catheter inflate inside blocked coronary artery to open it, after inflating the balloon catheter leave a mesh la device to hold artery open.

8. Coronary artery bypass graft is a surgical procedure done were blocked area of coronary artery bypass with vein or artificial graft material.
