Are there options to experiment with a different mix of ages of staff? Can this be justified given that all team members essential do the same jobs? What are the pros and cons of different options?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

It is definitely possible to experiment with different mix with regards to age of staff. For example, younger staffs can be given higher position and responsibilities to lower the overall age of the workforce. This can potentially also reduce the wage bill as younger staff members would have comparatively lower compensation packages.

However this may not be an optimal solution under all circumstances as some managerial level positions require significant experience and hence promoting younger employees to these positions may be counter productive.

To conclude while promoting younger employees at higher level positions might reduce the wage bill and also increase vigor and energy, there is a chance that much needed experience of coping with difficult situations may be lacking and this may result in potential loss for the organisation

What does random assignment do in an experiment that makes it so useful? It allows us to be able to interpret the results of an experiment because we know that the groups we study are not the same at all and we want them to be as different as possible. It gives us confidence that the statistics we use in experiments can't be made up. It provides us with some confidence that the groups we are studying are basically the...
