If you work for a company and know about an upcoming product release that will soar the company's stock, and you don't tell anyone to buy stock or about the product release and you just buy it yourself and make big profit when the product releases, is that insider trading? Or do you have to tip someone of the upcoming release?

Answer #1

If this information has been obtained through any of the persons who is working for the company or related to the company, then this information is an insider information and the trading which has been done based upon this information is completely an insider trading and this will be a illegal offence.

if I have to tip someone to know about the upcoming release then also it is an insider trading because if the information is not in the public domain and I am involved with the management for disclosure of private sensitive information than these informations are insider trading documents and these can lead to serious offence.

If this release was expected by me in anticipation or through some other studies which is not through the insider sources of the companies that this is not an insider trading

You are the CEO of an organization, and you’re having a private, non-business dinner with a shareholder (who is not an employee but someone you have known since high school) one week before your company is expected to release its prior year financial results. In meeting with your CFO, you know there is a significant surprise profit shortfall coming from the Latin American organization. This shareholder says, "My kid is going off to college this fall, and things are really...

Imagine your company is deciding whether they should sell a new product, but you first need to make sure that the public will be interested in it. You decide that you will release it nationwide if 35% of the people “like it enough to buy it.” You conduct a random sample of 400 consumers and discover that just 112 respondents said they liked it enough to buy it. Testing at the 95% significance level, can you conclude whether you should...

Tell the class about a time you faced an issue (at work or in your personal life) where you made a decision that you later came to regret. Do you think you could have made a better decision using the rational model? Why or why not? Again, don’t identify anyone by name and keep in mind this is a class assignment (not a counseling session) , and don’t share any examples that might make the rest of us wish we...

Knowling goes on to say about fear that once people know change is coming, 'you can cut it with a knife'. He implies this is normal as well, which I too agree. He then says that his way of 'dealing with it' is to tell people that they need to deal with the fear and not let it immobilize them into doing nothing. Again I agree with this statement, but I am not fully supportive of the notion that you...

Prep Work Once you have a good feel for the different types of business structures, you should be able to narrow the choice for your specific business idea down to a couple. Think about the different structures and your own situation. See if you can narrow down your thoughts to the one best for you. For example, sole proprietorship or partnership--a sole proprietorship has the most control and it's really easy to make a decision but a partnership has a...

Suppose you are a salesperson and your company's CRM forecasts that your quarterly sales will be substantially under quota. You call your best customers to increase sales, but no one is willing to buy more. Your boss says that it has been a bad quarter for all the salespeople. It's so bad, in fact, that the vice president of sales has authorized a 20 percent discount on new orders. The only stipulation is that customers must take delivery prior to...

Consider the following scenario and then answer our discussion questions: You always walk to work, and your regular route takes you past a shallow pond. One morning you put on your very best clothes (you paid $200 for them just last week) and are in rush for a very important business meeting with your boss. When you pass by the pond, you notice that a toddler has fallen in and is about to drown. The child is crying for help!...

Jessica Silliman Luke Cavanaugh was an assistant editor at a large-scale, Los Angeles-based company which produced movie trailers, television spots, and other promotional material. As assistant editor, Luke's main responsibility was to take the "editor's cut" of a film and break it down to get it ready for promotional distribution and sound mixing. Luke's job dealt heavily with confidentiality. Friends and family members would often ask him for "the dirt" on the latest releases, especially with large-scale Hollywood productions. Because...
