Let's explain it in the context of economics;

Functional economics refers to the optimal use of the goods and services so that we can better manage our existing wealth that includes scarce resources, knowledge, and more.

Now, what determines it?

Function varies according to the matter it's utilized upon. The economy consists of various types of functions such as production function, demand function, supply function, the consumption function, etc.

So as we can note, all of them have a different use, different theory, and also they are interrelated with each other.

Production function determines different things then demand function.
