Explain the functionality of the electrode in arc welding.

Explain the functionality of the electrode in arc welding.

Answer #1

Different type of the welding process is there. arc welding is one of the process for the welding.

for the arc welding process we are use electrode, that electrode is consumable electrode. the function of the electrode is used to conduct current through a workpiece to fuse two pieces together.also electrode is work as a coating to the welded part.electrode is use for arc stability. The electrode rod is made of a material that is compatible with the base material being welded and is covered with a flux that gives off vapors that serve as a shielding gas and provide a layer of slag, both of which protect the weld area from atmospheric contamination. The electrode core itself acts as filler material, making a separate filler unnecessary. so that is function of the electrode in the arc welding process.

A resistance spot welding operation is used to join two pieces of sheet steel (1 in wide, 5 in long, 1/8 in thick) having a unit melting energy of 130 Btu/in3 . The weld duration will be set at 0.25 sec with a current of 11,000 amp. Based on the electrode diameter, the weld nugget will have a diameter of 0.30 in. Experience has shown that 40% of the supplied heat melts the nugget and the rest is lost. If...
