The Federal government revenue as a percentage of GDP saw a big increase during and after the World War II. Before the revenue was around 3-5%, but in 1940s the percentage went up to 20%. Since the 1950s , it has been relatively stable at around 16-18%.

The state and local government expenditures as a percentage fo GDP followed an opposite trend where the share went from 10% before the war to 5% in 1940s. It then grew steadily and has been constant at around 13% since the 1970s
