In this question there are two variables . 1st is cigarette sales and 2nd is the number of high school graduates.

Let variable x denote cigarette sales and variable y denoted the number of high school graduate.

As given in the question there has been a strong positive correlation between the cigarette sales and the number of high school graduates.

If variables x and Y have strong positive correlation then the value of correlation coefficient r is greater then 0. That is r > 0.

The following graph shows strong positive correlation between the cigarette sales and the number of high school graduates.
