What is the modern liberalism?
It is a form of liberalism which developed in the 19th and 20th centuries in response to problems which classical liberalism was unable to solve. It is also described as social liberalism.
Modern liberalism retains the commitment to civil rights, democratic government, and rule of law (among other things) which marked classical liberalism. However, modern liberalism accepts a role for the government in providing public safety nets and placing regulations upon industry in order to protect the environment, workers, and consumers from unethical business practices.
