Does the following statement represent a consequentialist, or a non-consequentialist form of reasoning?
It is your duty to give him a chance for the job
Consequentialist form of reasoning is based on the concept that the consequences based on someone's conduct are the ultimate basis for any judgement which is done on the basis of what is right or wrong.
The statement gives me a moral responsibility and does something good by giving a person a chance to earn a living by giving him a chance at a job, ultimately something good will come of it eventually. The consequences are good and someone will start earning because of it.
Whereas a non consequentialist theory is based on the intrinsic value and not on the consequences.
Thus this statement represents a consequentialist form of reasoning.
