Why is tuition at state-sponsored colleges and universities lower for in-state students?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The tuition at the state sponsored colleges is lower for the students that belong to that state and higher for the students that do not belong to the state and outsiders. The reason is that in state sponsored colleges and Universities are funded by the amount received in the form of taxes. These taxes paid by the individuals residing in the state. Therefore the students that belong to the particular state will have to face a lower tuition in state funded college. But the same is not true for students that come from other states because they are not entitled to receive tax benefits that they have not contributed in.
