When any event happens and the case comes under the law there are some preliminary steps that would be taken to to find case law and its legal status.

The preliminary steps to find case law on this legal issue are:

1. Place of occurrence of event: that is where the event took place which is also known as the jurisdiction.

2. The second is to know on which date or dates the event happened.

3. After that look into the people who were involved in the case.

4. Then study the case about what happened.

5. And lastly decide what areas of laws should be applied to the case.

Types of cases would look into are:

After studying the above five steps, in the V step one will study what type of problem it is,and what laws should be applied and study cases. This will help them to decide type of cases which could be criminal cases, civil cases, or contact cases.
