Why did colonists generally celebrate the overthrow of the Dominion government and favor the “Glorious Revolution” of their mother country?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Dominion Government was a self-governing empire under the British crown.

Glorious Revolution was the revolution that took place in 1688 to 1689 in England in which the English empire was reconstituted as the William of Orange took the throne from King James II.

The colonists celebrated this change as they finally got freedom from the strict British rule and anti-puritans rule to some extent.

Puritans were the religious group who believed that the Gods expected the English people to live according to the scriptures. However, this belief excessively shackled the freedom and thoughts of the people of colonies.

Colonies were made to follow many such unfair rules which made them dissatisfied with the British empire.

There was ongoing political and religious strife which ultimately led to this revolution. King James II was a Catholic and thus he was on opposite ends with those of non-Catholic groups.

After this revolution, the parliament gained more power and the economy of the British empire took a favourable turn.
