HDFS and Map Reduce Framework both are two different implementations. HDFS is open source but Google Map Reduce  is not actually.

Google is work with large data sets, they have to rely on distributed file systems. HDFS is stands for Hadoop Distributed File Systems and it is used by Hadoop and Google MapReduce uses GFS and it stands for Google File System.

HDFS is implemented in java and Google MapReduce used in C++.


Hadoop consists on two main layers and HDFS and MapReduce as we know that HDFS is stands for Distributed file system and MapReduce is about Execution engine.
