● For the calculation of design flood discharge we have first find the two things (material ):-

  1. Area of Cross-Section,
  2. Corresponding Velocity

1) The area of cross-section is measured by taking a series of levels of the river at H.F.L. at certain intervals.

2) Corresponding surface velocity is to be determined for each section and weightage average value of velocity is calculated for determining the design flood discharge.

● Now determine the dischage at every corss section and then select the peak value or maximum value from it.

This maximum value of the discharge is known as the design flood discharge.
