What is the pH of the following:
a) .0150 M HCL mixed with .320 M NaCl.
b) .18 M KClO4.
c) .0250 M LiOH mixed with .12 M LiCl.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a) Since NaCl is formed from strong base NaOH and Strong acid HCl so NaCl concentration does not effect the pH of the solution.
pH of mixed solution = pH of HCl solution
pH of HCl solution = -log(0.015) , because HCl is strong electrolyte solution.
pH = 1.824

b) KClO4 is formed from strong base KOH and Strong acid HClO4 so the salt is netral. Since there is no H+ ions or OH- ions are present in the solution.

c) LiCl is also formed from strong base LiOH and strong acid HCl so the salt is again neutral.
So the pH of mixed solution = pH of LiOH solution
pH = 14 - pOH
pOH = -log(0.025)
pOH = 1.602
pH = 14 - 1.602
pH = 12.398
