Why is energy input required to break a chemical bond?
Note: Energy input is required to break a chemical bond. When a chemical bond is formed, energy is released to the surroundings. Energy is stored in broken chemical bonds.
A chemical bond is nothing but a force of attraction that holds the atom tight. By forming bond atoms gets stability owing to the fact that energy is released when a bond is formed and hence energy content of the atoms decreases. In otherwords a bond making is always an energy releasing process. In the contrary in order to break a bond the energy must be supplied which is higher than the force of attraction that holds them. In otherwords bond breaking is always an energy absorbing process.
