Write general information about :

ACID BASE TITRATION

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Acid base titration is one of useful titration in which a known concentration of acid and base are mixed up and a neutral solution formed. This is known as neutrization too.

eg. One of common example is-

when H+ and OH- are reacted then H2O

H+(acid)  + OH- (base)_______> H2O(neutral)

this is used to find the amount of a known acidic or basic substance through acid base reactions.

the titrand(analytic)solution with unkown concentration is reacted with titrant solution with known concentration , then we can find out the amount of analytic.

in an acid base titration, a sample of unknown concentration phosphoric acid is analyzed by titration with a solution of sodium hydroxide solution. In this analysis just enough sodium hydroxide solution of known molar concentration is added to just react with all of the phosphoric acid. When this condition has been met, the endpoint of the titration has been reached. suppose that 26.38 mL of a 0.100 M sodium hydroxide solution is added to a 30.00 mL sample of the...

Explain why the titration of a strong acid with a strong base stays at a low pH value until very near to the stoichiometric point. I understand why the pH for a strong acid/strong base titration must equal 7 at the stoichiometric point, but I don't really understand the reasoning behind the shape of the titration curve and why it stays low until very near the stoichiometric point.

A laboratory technician wants to determine the aspirin content of a headache pill by acid–base titration. Aspirin has a Ka of 3.0 × 10-4. The pill is dissolved in water to give a solution that is about 10-3 M and is then titrated with KOH solution. Find the pH at each of the following points, neglecting dilution effects: (a) before titration begins. (b) at the stoichiometric point. (c) at the midpoint of the titration.
