Briefly compare and contrast the analyte and titrant. To which solution is the indicator most often added?
Titration is the most common method of quatitative analysis and during the quantitative analysis , unknown substance ( whose concentration we need to find) is reacted with the known substance (whose concentration we know). The unknown substance ( whose concentration we need to find) is called analyte and the known substance (whose concentration we know) is called titrant. During the titration, titrant is added to the known amount of analyte to get the equivalence point .
we use the indicators to find the equivalence point . often the indicator is added to the analyte and see the color change during the titration.
During the acid base titration-a known amount of the analyte is taken in a conical flask (added with indicator) and and dropwise titrant is added to it . End point (equivalence point)of the reaction is observed with the color change.
