Describe, how an ion-selective electrode works. State four types of ion-selective electrodes.
the ion-selective electrode is basically sensors that convert the concentration of specific ion into the electrical potential.
it consists of the reference electrode and indicator electrode (where specific ion detected) and the ion-selective membrane that allows only specific ions to reach near the indicator electrode (where the ions are detected). since the potential of reference is constant so any change in voltage contains the information about the concentration of ions near the indicator electrode.
types of ion-selective electrodes
1) glass membrane
2) solid-state electrode
3) liquid-based electrode
4) compound electrode
