After doing a bomb calorimeter experiment. How do I use the heat capacity of the system and the data to determine the energy of combustion for a substance assumed to be completely sucrose.
bomb calorimeter is used to measure the heat of combustion of reaction by pouring water ( usually water ) into the calorimeter and measring the initial and final temperatures.
Heat given = heat taken by calorimeter + heat taken by liquid ( under adiabatic conditions)
heat taken by calorimeter= heat capacity* temperature rise
heat taken by water = mass of water* specific heat* temperature difference
heat of combustion for a given mass of sucrose can then be calculated.
