Which of the following will have the largest intermolecular attractiveness? Please explain.
H-F, P-N, C-Si, O-O
H- F is having a strongest intermilecular attractiveness, Hydrogen is having very less electronegetivity n Fluorine is a strongest electronegative element, the bond formed between these is a very strong in nature and the bond is ionic, strong attractive forces present, H- bond present in between H.....F . So among the all of them H- F is having strong and lengthy intermolecular ( hydrogen bond) attractiveness.
O-O is having pi- bonding between them due to sharing of 2 pi- electrons (electrons of 2 P- 2P orbitals). This pi- bond is not lengthy ( shorter than single bond) and stronger than that of H-F.
P- N also having covalent bonding between 3P - 2P orbitals nt lengthy , due to orbital mismatch also nt strong in nature ( mismatch orbitals will not form strong hybrid orbitals).
Same is applicable to C- Si bond.
