If you increase the content of acetone in the eluent mixture (mixture of acetone/hexane), what would you expect to happen to Rf values of chlorophyll? Why? (for discussion purposes, assume chlorophyll to arrive at Rf of 0.5 under the “standard” eluent mixture.)
1) chlorophyll arrive at Rf 0.5 under the" standard " eluent mixture.if we increase the contents of acetone in the eluent mixture ( mixture of acetone and hexane) polarity of eluent increase.
2) Then the chlorophyll moved up the polar silica gel without being absorbed in the stationary phase . Causing the Rf value increases than standard Rf value of chlorophyll.
3)with the addition of acetone , Rf value increases which proveing that chlorophyll was a polar and could move up stationary phase due to polar solvent .
