The dehydrohalogenation of dibromostilbene occurs through two stages. Why does the second stage in particular require so much energy to complete?
The reactant in the second step consist of a double bond between two phenyl rings. Due to this the whole molecule is conjugated with alternate double bonds. Hence it is very stable and therefore requires high energy to remobe HBr from the molecule and go to completion.
