In the experiment, acetanilde was rinsed with a significant amount of water into the Buchner funnel. This was possible because acetanilide has a very low solubility in water. Normally, why should you use a minimum of solvent to rinse crystals in a Büchner funnel?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Generally use a minimum or a small amound of solvent to rinse the crystals in a Buchner funnel, because by using small amound of solvent will prevent the excess dilution of the filtrate(crystal). However use ice cold solvent to ensure that to donot dissolve any of the crystals.this will leads to get a better percentage yield of product formation.

if we add too much of solvent ,the solution may be too dilute for crystal to form and leads low percentage yield of crystal formation.
