Which one has the largest lattice energy and why?

SrS or KBr

Please walk me through how you figured it out. Thanks!

Answer #1

SrS has the largest lattice energy.
lattice energy depends on two factors:
(1) Charge on the ion: Higher is the ionic charge, higher is the lattice energy.
(2) Size of the ion: Lower is the ionic size, higher is the lattice energy.

The charge of ion is higher than the charge of ion.
The charge of ion is higher than the charge of Br(-I) ion
Also the ionic size of ion is higher than the ionic size of ion.

Due to these factors, the lattice energy of SrS is higher than the lattice energy of KBr.

Please walk me through how to do the standard deviation of the differences. I know the critical . value is -1.895, and the mean of the differences is -3.375.   My original numbers were 370/8 (Mean of 46.25) and 397/8 (Mean of 49.625) with a 95% CI. The standard deviation for the groups are 10.92 and and 10.71

please walk me step by step through this problem! A popular magazine is conducting a study in order to rank each state according to the overall health of its citizens. One measure that is used is the mean number of times each citizen excercises per week. For the 85 citizens surveyed in State A, the mean exercise rate was 1.9 times per week. For the 91 people surveyed in State B, the mean exercise rate was 2.3 times per week....

a) A nuclear reactor produces fast neutrons (with energy ∼ 1MeV) which are then slowed down to thermal neutrons (with energy of order E ∼ 0.025eV, comparable to their thermal energy at room temperature). In research reactors, both types of neutrons could be selected to exit through a port and used in scattering experiments to study crystals. Crystal lattice spacing is usually a few angstrom and to get information about the crystal in a scattering experiment the radiation wavelength should...
