Question

Endothermic reaction

Endothermic reaction

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Endothermic reaction is the type of reaction where system absorbs heat energy from surroundings to bring about the chemical reaction. In this process, enthalpy change is positive as product has more heat energy than reactant. Sometimes, you will feel the endothermic reaction by touching the reaction vessel, it gets cold as heat energy is absorbed here.

If forward reaction in a reversible reaction is exothermic, then backward reaction must be an endothermic one.

It is often difficult to tell whether a reaction is exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (takes in heat) just by looking at it. For the following reaction, describe what information you would need to know about specific bonds (be specific about numbers of bonds, bonds breaking and being formed, etc.) to tell whether the reaction is exothermic or endothermic: 2 CuO (s) + NO (g) ? Cu2O (s) + NO2 (g)
