A student’s sample provide one spot on the TLC plate at an Rf value of 0.9; however, there are three compounds present in the student’s sample. How could the TLC analysis be adjusted to show all three spots?
If the spot at 0.9 Rf is your product please reduce the polarity of the mobile phase to a lower percent and check the TLC. Always preferably the product to be isolated should be at ) 0.45-0.5 Rf value.
In order to view all the three spots adjust the polarity of the solvent, incase all your spots are above 0.9 Rf reduce the polarity (mobile Phase) sufficiently so that all the spots are at lower Rf's
NB: If you can get back to me with exact polarity and which solvents you used as mobile phase I could help you better. Thank you
