if a gas chromotography sample was a mizture of two compounds and producesd a single peak, how could you increase the resolution so that the two compounds are separated?

similarly, if an unknown sample gives one spot in TLC, how do you know that there is no guarantee that it is pure? how can you improve the analysis?

If use a narrower column or a longer column, or by trying different stationary phases, then you can increase the resolution so that the two compounds or separated.

Question 2.

If you decrease the polarity of the eluent for running TLC, or by using charring solutions to see the specific compounds (For example, iodine charring, anisaldehyde stain, or KMnO4 charring solution, etc.), then you can see a different spot which corresponds to another compound or impurity.
