What is the molecular weight of emthyl oleate?

What are the relative intenities of the M and M+1 peaks ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

molecular weight of methyl oleate is 296.5 g/ mol.

The molecular ion M+ (m/z = 296) is clearly seen.Ions representing loss of the elements of methanol (m/z = 264 or [M-32]+and the loss of the McLafferty ion (m/z = 222) are abundant.other peaks are at[M-116]+-m/z=180, 166, 152 etc are found.Hydrocarbon ions (general formula [CnH2n-1]+) dominate the spectrum, with m/z = 55 as the base peak .The relative abundances of all ions tends to be appreciably greater than in the mass spectra of dienes and polyenes.

Acetic acid (molecular weight = 60.05 g/mol) and sodium acetate (molecular weight = 82.03 g/mol) can form a buffer with an acidic pH. In a 500.0 mL volumetric flask, the following components were added together and mixed well, and then diluted to the 500.0 mL mark: 100.0 mL of 0.300 M acetic acid, 1.00 g of sodium acetate, and 0.16 g of solid NaOH (molecular weight = 40.00 g/mol). What is the final pH? The Ka value for acetic acid...

Diffusion experiment: What would diffuse faster, a low molecular weight dye, or a high molecular weight dye? Why did you need to keep refilling the dye in the well? Would it change your result if you ran out of dye during the experiment? When diffusion occurs, there needs to be a difference of molecules in the two areas. Molecules move from high concentration to where they are in lower concentration. This is called what?

By knowing the natural abundance of minor isotopes, it's possible to calculate the relative heights of M+ and M+1 peaks. If natural abundances are 12C - 98.9% and 13C - 1.10%, what are the relative heights, to the nearest 0.1%, of the M+ and M+1 peaks in the mass spectrum of lactic acid, C3H6O3? Ignore the contributions of isotopes like 2H (deuterium; 0.015% natural abundance) and 17O (0.04% natural abundance) that are small. The relative heights are, in order of...

The mass spectrum of an organic compound shows the relative abundances of M to be 44.02% and M 1 to be 3.333%. Assuming the peaks are caused by 12C and 13C isotopes, determine the number of carbon atoms in the compound. Natural abundances: 12C is 98.93% and 13C is 1.07%
