usually before preparing the Grignard reagent we flame dry the apparatus with a Bunsen burner to remove the water vapour absorbed on the glassware. Why is this normally done?
Solution :-
Grignard reagent General formula = RMgX
in the grignard reagent alkyl group is having negative charge therefore it is strongly basic in nature
therefore if it combines with water or alcohol then it takes the proton from them and forms the alkane as the product of the reaction.
Means the Grignard reagent will not be formed or it is destroyed if the water is present.
Therefore before preparing the Grignard reagent it is important to flame dry the apparatus with bunsen burner so that any moisture content present in the apparatus will be removed completely and we get 100 % dry conditions.
