Please determine and demonstrate how to get the number of protons and the number of electrons in each ion.

A. Ni^2+

B. S^2-

C. Br^1-

D. Cr^3+

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: According to the question , Here we have to know that atomic number = number of electrons = number of protons in a neutral species .

So , A] Ni2+ , Here 2+ shows that 2 electrons are removed . And we know that atomic number of Ni = 28

no. of electrons = 28 -2 = 26 electrons

no of protons = 28 protons.

B] S2- , means 2 electrons are added . and we know that tomic number of S = 16

no. of electrons = 16 + 2 = 18 electrons

no. of protons = 16 protons

C] Br-1 , means 1 electron is added . and we know that atomic number of Br = 35

no. of electrons = 35 + 1 = 36 electrons

no . of protons = 35 protons

D] Cr3+ , means 3 electrons are removed. And we know that atomic number of Cr = 24

no. of electrons = 24-3 = 21 electrons

no. of protons = 24 protons

Hence it is all about the given question thank you :)
