list the noble gases that are obtained commercially by distillation of liquid air?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Neon, argon, krypton, and xenon. Except neon; argon, krypton, and xenon three of them are obtained by the fractional distillation of liquid air. But The lighter noble gas neon is obtained from air. Its boiling point (-246̊C) is too low for neon to condense during the liquefaction of air, and neon concentrates in the gas that remains after air is liquefied.

below is the percent composition of various gases present in our atmosphere.

To prevent the presence of air, noble gases are placed over highly reactive chemicals to act as inert "blanketing" gases. A chemical engineer places a mixture of noble gases consisting of 5.78 g of He, 15.1 g of Ne, and 34.5 g of Kr in a piston-cylinder assembly at STP. Calculate the partial pressure of each gas PHe =   atm PNe =   atm PKr =   atm

Early evidence for the existence of noble gases was the discrepancy between the apparent molecular mass of nitrogen obtained from the atmosphere (after removal of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor) and that obtained from the decomposition of ammonium nitrate to nitrogen and water. Results: 28.01 g/mol (pure N2) 28.15 g/mol (N2 contaminated with Ar) If the discrepancy is solely due to argon (MM = 39.95 g mol-1), what is the nAr/nN2 in the atmosphere?

Air is heated by exhaust gases that flow in a heat exchanger, as shown in the figure. The heat gained by the air is measured as 320 kW and the inlet air temperature is 20°C. Exhaust gases inlet state is 527°C, 822 kJ/kg, 64 m/s while the exit state is 327°C, 607 kJ/kg, 78 m/s. If the flow rate of air is 10kg/s, determine the flow rate of exhaust gases and the exit temperature of air. [Cp-air = 1.005 kJ/kg...

Radon (Rn) is the heaviest and the only radioactive member of Group 8A(18), the noble gases. It is a product of the disintegration of heavier radioactive nuclei found in minute concentrations in many common rocks used for building and construction. In recent years, health concerns about the cancers caused from inhaled residential radon have grown. If 1.00 × 1015 atoms of radium (Ra) produce an average of 1.373 × 104 atoms of Rn per second, how many liters of Rn,...
