Part II In Part II the reaction you observed was HSO4 - (aq) + H2O (l) ó H3O+(aq)+SO4 2-.
A. Which way should the equilibrium shift when Na2SO4 is added? How do your results support your answer?
B. Which way should the equilibrium shift when NaHSO4 is added? How do your results support your answer?
C. Is this reaction endothermic or exothermic? How do you know?
HSO4 - (aq) + H2O (l) ---------> H3O+(aq)+SO4 2-.
A. By the addition of Na2SO4
Na2So4 ---------> 2Na+ + So42-
by the addition of Na2SO4 conc of SO42- increases on products side . So the equilibrium shift to left side.
B By the addition of NaHSO4
Na2So4 ---------> Na+ + HSo4-
by the addition of NaHSO4 conc of HSO4- increases on reactant side . So the equilibrium shift to right side
C. In this reaction heat enery is released . So it is exothermic reaction
