1. In the experiment chemistry of household product, different household products were tested for the presence of Cl. How can you test a product have Cl present in it or not? Write in detail possible chemical test required and support your description by giving correct examples.

2. What did you test for the Garden fertilizer and how did you do it, in your chemistry of household product laboratory. Describe in detail.

Answer #1

1. If the product has Cl then we can test with silver nitrate. Cl- will give white precipitate with silver nitrate, this precipitate will be soluble in ammonia and reproduced by the addition of nitric acid.

Cl^- (aq)+AgNO3(aq) ------------------> AgCl(s) + NO3^- (aq)

AgCl(s) + 2NH3(aq) -------------------> [Ag(NH3)2)]^+(aq)+Cl^-(aq)

[Ag(NH3)2)]^+(aq)+Cl^-(aq) + 2HNO3(aq) -------------------> AgCl(s) +2NH4NO3(aq)

2. We have to test garden fertilizer for nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium.

1A. The product from your reaction has a sharp melting point, indication that it is either meso-hydrobenzoin or a racemic mixture of the (1R, 2R) and (1S, 2S) enantiomers. Why is it not possible that your product is either the (1R, 2R) or the (1S, 2S) pure enantiomer? 1B. What is the enantiomeric excess (ee) of a racemic mixture of enantiomers? 1C. If the racemic mixture of the hydrobenzoins were formed in the reaction of benzil with sodium borohydride, describe...

Activity 1: Scientific Reports You may have heard the question “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” A similar question can be asked about experiments. “If a researcher performs an experiment and never publishes the result has science been performed?” Many people would say no because science is the accumulation of knowledge. If the results of an experiment are not published, knowledge is not gained. The final...

Procedure Reaction 1: Dissolving the Copper 1. Obtain a clean, dry, glass centrifuge tube. 2. Place a piece of copper wire in a weighing paper, determine the mass of the wire and place it in the centrifuge tube. The copper wire should weigh less than 0.0200 grams. 3. In a fume hood, add seven drops of concentrated nitric acid to the reaction tube so that the copper metal dissolves completely. Describe your observations in the lab report. Introduction Purpose Your goal is to create a design for a software interface. You will experience the scope of the design process from brainstorming ideas and gathering information about users’ needs to storyboarding, prototyping, and finally, testing and refining your product. As you work on the software interface, you will demonstrate your ability to apply fundamental Human-Computer Interaction principles to interface analysis, design, and implementation. You will be responsible for delivering project components to your professor at several points during...
