I need to come up with a a separation and purification scheme procedure for 50% anthracene, 40% 4-aminoacetophenone, and 1,4-dichlorobenzene.
Separation and purification of 50% antracene, 40% 4-aminoacetophenone and 1,4-dichlorbenzene
Steps
1. 1,4-dichlorobenzene is first separated from the mixture by distillation. The other two remained in mixture.
2. Dissolve the other two is dichloromethane
3. Add aqueous HCl to the solution. 4-aminoacetophenone forms hydrochloride salt and goes into water layer.
4. Separate the aqueous layer and add NaOH to reprecipitate pure 4-aminoacetophenone from the solution. Separate the compound.
5. The organic dichloromethane layer now has only anthracene in it. Remove the solvent by distillation and we get oure anthracene.
Thus we have separated pure anthracene, 4-aminoacetophenone and 1,4-dichlorobenzene.
