(degenerate set of eg orbitals are assymetrically occupied by an electron in the octahedral geometry which requires more energy)So to reduce this energy the system undergoes tetragonal distortion, dz^2 orbital with the electrons moves out z-out distortion
The compound appears tetragonal in shape with elongated axial bonds.in the octahedral geometry
