Basic concept and explanation: Vanderwaal force generally act due to contact between two molecules and it is present in almost all covalent molecules. It is very weak force acting between molecules.

Hydrogen bond is possible when N, O or F is present and hydrogen is connected any of these atoms, hydrogen bond is stronger force than vanderwaal and dipole - dipole interaction.

Dipole - dipole interaction is possible whenever there is bond between two different atom having high electronegativity difference.

Hydrocarbon like methane , benzene are non-polar because electronegativity difference is very small between carbon and hydrogen. So they are non-polar.
