How would your percent yield have been affected if you had not cooled the reaction mixture before filtering it to isolate the crystals?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Generally the solubility of the many compounds are more in hot solution. As the the reaction mixture is cool down to room temperature the crystals comes out of the solution. Then only the crystals have to be filtered. Otherwise, some of the compound might be in the hot solution and the weight of actual product is less than what we synthesized.

% yield = actual yield / Theoretical yield * 100

If the amount of actual yield is less, the % yield comes to be less.

Thank you.
