HIPAA and patient rights have been topics of discussion for years. How have you been affected personally and professionally by the new legislation (passed in the name of consumerism) to protect the rights and privacy of patients? Please elaborate on how you have been affected.

HIPAA(Health insurance portability and accountability act) was initiated to protect patient health information however it's been a question when it comes to protect patient rights.

Being a health care provider it sets boundary on use and release of health records.

Only minimum data can be disclosed

Increased the paper work of doctor to maintain documents

Has a lengthy law provisions

Written request on own letterhead is necessary to collect data

Consumer could understand the process hardly

Doesn't apply to employee

Patient in person or close relations has to collect the reports
