Answer #1

CaCl2 , MgCl2 or Na2SO4 all are used as a dehydrating agent or desiccant. They are generally used to remove residual water from organic solvent during work up.

If organic solvent contains water then the solvent have some cloudy nature and if you add the above salt, first the salts absorbs water molecules and the organic solvent become more transparent. This change can predict the water molecules are removed.

If you add MgSO4 to an Erlenmeyer's flask containing a colorless solution and it all dissolved then you can predict that the colour solution is water.

Add 7.0 mL of N,N-dimethylaniline and 50 mL of dichloromethane (CH2Cl2, DCM) to a 400- mL beaker. Place the beaker in an ice-water bath. Add a magnetic stir bar and thermometer. Clamp the thermometer in place. Turn on the stirring motor. Add 1.1 equivalents of a solution (~1 M) of bromine (Br2) in DCM (already prepared in the hood) with a plastic disposable pipet. If the temperature of the solution rises above 25 °C stop adding bromine solution. Allow the...

Below is the background info for the lab assignment. The 4 blank boxes are the questions I would like answers too. The end point for the fine titration was 35.90 mL in the burette when the solution turned bright green again. And the coarse titration I got 35.36mL as the end point. 35.9 mL is exact in case you need that info. Thanks!
