Answer #1

Answer - Alanine,if it is a single option answer,Alanine and Valine if multiple options answer.

Carbohydrates>Fats>Proteins from early stages of fasting to prolonged stages.

•In prolonged stages of fasting, the amino acids of proteins enter the gluconeogenesis pathway to form glucose.

For example:

•During prolonged stages of fasting and exercise,Alanine would be used by muscle as fuel source.

•Alanine from the skeletal muscle is taken up by the liver, where alanine gets converted into Pyruvate in a series of reactions.

•In the liver the amino group of alanine is transferred to alpha-ketoglutarate,so that alanine gets converted to pyruvate, and alpha-ketoglutarate to glutamate.

•The Pyruvate then enters the gluconeogenesis pathway where it gets converted into Glucose which enters the respiratory pathway to provide energy.

1) Muscle lacks glucose-6-phosphatase and therefore glucose-6-phosphate cannot be dephosphorylated in muscle for export into the blood. Muscle stores glycogen for its use and muscle glycogen serve as a source of readily available fuel particular during the period of muscle exertion or physical exercise. True or False? 54)Uncouple proteins can dissipate the proton gradient (or cause leakage of protons) in the inner membrane of mitochondria and thus decrease the membrane potential. As a result, more ATP molecules are synthesized and...

Which of the following is TRUE? Fatty acids released in response to increased levels of glucagon can be used as an alternative fuel source for muscles. Cell membranes are very permeable to glucose, making it a good fuel source. The SYN stimulates glucose diffusion into muscle cells. Long exhaustive exercise causes reduced amino acid levels in the blood.

Traditionally, experiments related to exercise metabolism used college age males as the research subjects. This trend is less today and females are also used. Some of the early studies showed that estrogen can lower muscle glycogen and blood glucose uptake. Progesterone on the other hand increases muscle glycogen utilization and has no effect upon blood glucose uptake. This could lead one to ask whether gender specific exercise programs and dietary manipulations are necessary. Decide if you are for against the...
