Ans . Vertebrates are of the phylum chordata that shares certain
structural features at some point during their embryonic
development. Three of such shared characteristics are:
- A notochord - They are rod shaped Flexible structure found in
all vertebrates during their embryonic stage, which is replaced into
a vertebral column later in adult stage. Their main function is to
provide skeletal support to the body.
- A dorsal Hollow Nerve Chord - These are tubular chord made up
of nervous tissues located above the notochord. They are found in
most of the vertebrates in embryonic stage which later is replaced
by brain and spinal chord forming the Central nervous system.
- Post Anal Tails- They are a part of extension of the body
beyond anus. In vertebrates these are present during embryonic
stage which becomes vestigial as they grow into adult stage.
