How do populations of predators and prey vary in predatism?
An increase in the population of the predator causes the prey population to decrease at first. Due to the decrease in the prey population and the large predator population, there is a decrease in the population of the predators. Subsequently there is a reversion in the prey population and it begins to increase.
However if there is an imbalance in the size of the population at an unusual level for example if there is a drastic decrease in the prey population, the eqilibrium between the prey and predator population is disrupted which causes harm to both the species. It is seen that the survival of the prey is dependent on the existence of the predator because the absence of the predator will lead to the proliferation of the prey population. And when the prey population exceeds the capacity of the ecosytem it results in environmental damage and wiping off the entire prey population.
