Why is E.coli referred to as part of the indigenous microbiota of
humans and where
can it be found in humans?
E.Coli are gram negative bacillus and are indigenous part of indigenous microbiota of GI tract and are referred as oppurtunistic pathogens.They remain dormant in GI tract for entire life.Normal micrbiota are usually found on the surface of deep lalayer of skin , saliva and GI tract.They normally cause no harm in GI tract and helps to fight against various infection and remain in the intestinal lumen . They may enter the blood stream ,urinary bladder and or wound and can cause serious infection in the urinary tract and can leads to septicemia.Some E.coli are found in nature which are not indigenous microbiota of colon and cause disease when ingested.They are enteropathogenic E.Coli whic may cause diorrhea, vomiting, intestinal cramps etc.
