Many protists, fungi and plants have haploid cells that divide by mitosis. How many chromosomes would you expect to find in the cells resulting from such a division and why?
Mitotic division is equational division in which there is maintainance of chromosome occur. If haploid cell undergo mitotic division then the daughter cell will also be haploid.
Hence we can say, in case of protist, fungi and plant, resultant cell also be haploid because parents cells are haploid.
This maintainance of chromosome occur because there is splinting of chromosomes in 2 different cell in Anaphase of mitotic division. There is no separation of half of the chromosomes into 2 different cells which occur in meiotic division.
