Hi Answer:

Q. Loss of the cell wall is required for the endosymbiotic theory

Answer: True

Explanation: The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory of the origin of the eukaryotic cells from prokaryotic cells. It was first given by a Russian botanist Konstantin Mereschkiwski in 1905 and further advanced by Lynn Margulis in 1967. According to this theory, the advanced organelles such as mitochondria, plastids, and chloroplast of eukaryotic cells are formally free-living prokaryotic cells. This theory is supported by many advances such as plastids and mitochondria can divide only by binary fission. During the endosymbiotic process, many organelles reduced their genome size due to this genome size reduction many specific features were also lost. The one example is the loss of cell wall in certain organelles during endosymbiotic evolution.

The Gram+ bacterial cell wall is composed mostly of polysaccharides complexed with small proteins; it surrounds the plasma membrane and protects the cell from osmotic shock. B. The Gram+ cell wall influences the exchange of materials between the bacterium’s environment and its cytoplasm; in contrast, based on its structure, the Gram- cell wall has little or no influence or effect on cellular permeability.
