If GAPDH is used as an internal control for the PCR setup, then in the absence of the GAPDH band, we can not use the data obtained to determine if the patient have the disease.
This is because GAPDH is used as internal control and GAPDH is an constitutive gene. Being a constitutive gene, it will be expressed all the time and if proper protocol is followed, GAPDH band will be observed in every human sample tested as they have that gene expressing all the time. This means expression of GAPDH should not be changed by the presence of other infection.
So if the band of GAPDH is not present, it means that we have done some error while handling and preparing the samples. Thus, this data isn't reliable and can't be used.
